The simplest way to protect yourself from the harm others may intend is to ensure you harbor no ill will towards them. Picture a calm river, flowing peacefully between two villages. Each village relies on the river for life, but if one pollutes it with waste, the contamination inevitably flows downstream, affecting both. By keeping the river pure, both villages ensure the water remains life-giving for everyone. In the same way, when you keep your heart free from ill will, it creates a ripple of peace that protects not only others but also reflects back upon you. Like a mirror, the world often reflects what we project onto it—by casting kindness instead of harm, you safeguard your own soul from the dangers of others’ malice.
